The 25th Annual Reedville Bluefish Derby
Russell Hall, President of Smith Point Sea Rescue Inc., recently announced that applications for the 25th Annual Reedville Bluefish Derby have been sent to previous entrants, thus launching the 25th annual tournament, which will be held this year on June 13th, and 14th at Buzzard’s Point Marina in Reedville, VA. Hall explains that the reason for mailing applications at this time is to allow entrants the opportunity to make this charitable donation before December 31st. Also, all entries received by January 31, 2008 will be eligible to win the $1,000 early entry drawing to be held on the final day of the derby. Applications may be obtained at Jett’s Hardware in Reedville or, by calling 804-453-5325. Entries are not limited to past contestants, but are available to anyone on a first come first served basis. Entries will be limited to the first 300 entries received. Check boats will be located at the mouth of the Great Wicomico River and outside the jetty at the mouth of the Little Wicomico River and at Norview Marina in Deltaville. Boats may also be checked out by Derby officials standing on the dock at Buzzard's Point Marina or Smith Point Marina. All fish to be weighed must still be brought to the official weigh station located at Buzzard’s Point Marina or at the Smith Point Marina on the Little River. Bluefish, Rockfish and Croaker will share in the prize money. In all, 26 cash prizes will be awarded as primary and daily prizes along with many other prizes and awards. Anglers should make plans to enter the 2008 version of this “Grandfather” of all local fishing tournaments. All are urged to take part in the continuation of this tradition which thousands look forward to each June. Entertainment this year will be provided by DJ David Lankford on Thursday Night, Casper on Friday night and Ray Pittman Project on Saturday night. Smith Point Sea Rescue is a totally volunteer rescue unit, which serves the local area. The organization receives no governmental funding and depends solely on the proceeds of this derby and donations to fund their operation for the year.
